02/05 PRIVACY COMPASS
YEAR 2021 CLIENT UNIVERSITY PROJECT ROLE UX/UI DESIGN, APP CONCEPT TEAM MAX HERRMANN
That’s why they often lack the motivation and capacity to deal with their usage behavior in the digital space. Privacy Compass is a digital iOS assistant that gently and interactively explains how personal data is handled when using apps and shows how to protect them. The concept is shown by using Instagram as an example.
Core Challenges I focused on
to remove the barriers for users to deal with the topic
as different data holds importance for each user
without overly restricting users when using an app
as this is a complex issue, users should quickly understand the problem
to protect their personal data
Privacy Compass is not an app, but rather an assistant and therefore a theoretical product from Apple, which is anchored in the iOS settings. We dealt intensively with the Human Interface Guidelines of Apple in order to develop a realistic concept.
When designing it, we attached great importance to the fact that our assistant respects and meaningfully expands Apple's previous data protection measures and settings. Privacy Compass aligns with existing iOS Digital well-being capabilities.
Insight into the process
When activating the Privacy Compass, alerts and soft markings show when privacy needs to be considered. Associated information provides tips for safe and trustworthy handling of this personal data. Users always have the opportunity to decide for themselves which personal data is important as well as when and how they want to receive warnings and information.
